Together We Act, United We Change: Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2025

Every April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) reminds us that healing is not only personal — it's collective. This year’s theme, “Together We Act, United We Change,” is a powerful call to action. It invites each of us to show up — for survivors, for our communities, and for a world free of sexual violence.

At Old City Counseling, we believe change begins with connection, courage, and community. For survivors of sexual assault, healing is deeply individual — but it’s also supported by the people and spaces around them. That’s why we’re committed to creating trauma-informed, inclusive care that centers safety, empowerment, and trust.

What This Year’s Theme Means to Us

“Together We Act” means that healing doesn’t happen in isolation. Whether it’s advocating for survivors’ rights, creating safe spaces, or simply being someone who listens without judgment — every action matters. Every voice raised in support of survivors chips away at the silence that keeps sexual violence hidden.

“United We Change” speaks to the collective power of communities who are willing to do the work. Change happens when we hold systems accountable, when we challenge harmful narratives, and when we replace shame with empathy. United, we can shift culture — from one of denial to one of dignity.

Our Ongoing Commitment

At Old City Counseling, we are dedicated to walking alongside survivors with compassion, care, and respect. We offer a confidential, supportive space for individuals to process their experiences and move toward healing at their own pace. Our therapists work from a trauma-informed perspective, which means we focus on safety, choice, and collaboration in every session. We understand that trauma affects each person differently, and we honor the courage it takes to reach out for support.

How You Can Take Action

Supporting survivors and working to end sexual violence requires all of us. You can take meaningful action by speaking out against harmful language and behaviors, listening to survivors without judgment, and continuing to educate yourself and others about the realities of sexual violence. Consider donating to or volunteering with local advocacy organizations, sharing resources within your community, or simply being someone who shows up with empathy. Small actions add up — and together, they create a culture of accountability and care.

A Final Word to Survivors

If you’re reading this and you’ve experienced sexual violence, know this: you are not alone. Your experience matters. Your healing matters. Whether you’ve told someone or held it quietly for years — your story deserves to be met with compassion, not judgment.

Healing is not linear. But it is possible. And you don’t have to go through it alone. We’re here for you — when you’re ready, in your own time, and on your own terms. Together, we act. United, we change.
