May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Since 1949, the month of May has been dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and promoting education around it. Each year, counselors and mental health professionals work to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Many use May to educate both people who may benefit from therapy and those who may not fully understand it. Counselors make a large impact on those in need and it is important to raise awareness about their services.

Mental health awareness is crucial because stigma is a barrier to many who are seeking help. While societal attitudes have improved, many still hesitate to reach out due to fear of judgment. Spreading awareness sends a powerful message that  no one is alone in their struggles. Early education and outreach can lead to earlier intervention, making a significant difference in a person’s well-being. Increased awareness also encourages more people to seek the support they need, helping them begin their journey toward healing and resilience.

This May, help raise awareness about mental health by sharing this blog to family and friends. If you or someone you know is struggling please contact us at [email protected] or (215) 608-4612
