Happy Counseling Awareness Month (CAM)! Each April in the United States, we recognize and celebrate the important role that counseling plays in people’s lives. This is a time to honor the dedication of counselors working across various settings and to raise awareness of the services they provide.
April is also a month of advocacy. The American Counseling Association (ACA) highlights key areas in need of attention and support from both clinicians and those seeking services. This year, important advocacy efforts include reducing mental health stigma, increasing mental health education in schools, and promoting ongoing professional development for counselors.
Why is CAM important?
Counseling Awareness Month matters because mental health affects everyone, and yet stigma remains a barrier to care. Counselors offer vital support to individuals in need, including those facing crises. By shining a spotlight on mental health care during CAM, we take steps toward normalizing seeking help, spreading awareness, and celebrating the professionals who make a difference every day.
